The Effect Of The Extract Of Opuntia On The Formation Of Hypertrophic Scar In Rabbits Ears

AIM:To analyze the effects of the extract of opuntia on the formation of hypertrophic scar in rabbits ears after injury.METHODS:The experiment was conducted at the animal laboratory.Thirty New Zealand white rabbits with big ear were selected,(weight:2～2.5kg,age:1～1.5 year's old)and randomly assigned into recombinant human epidermal growth factor derivative for external use,liquid,denetime (rhEGF)group,opuntia group and blank control group with 10 rabbits in each group. Full-thickness excisional wounds and 1cm in diameter were created over the ventral surface in every group.Small amount of rhEGF and the extract of opuntia were laid on the wound of rabbits in the rhEGF group and opuntia group twice every day when the wound formed and at the first and second day after operation,respectively.Those in the blank control group were not intervened.The wound healing of the three groups and incidence of forms of excessive scar were observed.The number of excessive scar,the expression of collagenⅠ,Ⅲwere investigated in different time after operation. RESULTS:Among the 30 included rabbits,4 died in wound healing because of diarrhea, and complement was done.Excessive dermal scars on rabbits ears that were similar to human hyperrophic scar appeared in the three groups.①The wound healing time of the three groups:the rhEGF grouP:7～9days,the opuntia group:9～11days,the blank control grouP:14～16days;(P＜0.01)。②The number of excessive dermal scars presented in the three groups:the rhEGF group:56,the opuntia group:62,the blank control group:89 (P＜0.01)。③The results showed that the expression of typeⅠcollagen of hypertrophic scar in rabbits ears after operation in puntia group was decressing gradually with the time elapse,while that in rhEGF and blank control groups were increasing after operation;the expression of typeⅢcollagen of the hypertrophic scar in rabbits ears after operation in puntia group was increasing with the time elapse,while that in rhEGF and blank control groups were decressing after operation.CONCLUSION:The extract of opuntia can reduce the wound healing time,decrease forms and accelerate softening and vanishing process of excessive scar incidence in rabbits' ears.
