Objective: To explore the diagnostic meanings of clinical symptoms, examination methods and treatment of primary aldosteronism(PA). Method: The clinical data of 112 patients admitted from the July, 1999 to March 2005 were retrospectively reviewed. Results: 89 patients had hypokalemia(80%), all the patients underwent PRA, ALD test, levels of PRA were lower than normal range; levels of ALD were higher than normal range. the ratio of ALD and PRA(ARR)>25( 67%), ARR>50(7%). Spironolactone test was positive in 40 cases from 45 cases who had underwent the test. 81 pateints were underwent B ultrasonography, 99 patients were underwent CT, 20 patients were underwent MRI . The positive rates of B ultrasonography, CT or MRI were 51. 9%, 87. 9%, 85% respectively. 58 PA patients who underwent surgery, 51 cases with adrenal adenomas, 7 cases with adremocotical hyperplasia. 43 cases with potassium recovered, and those patients who had underwent surgery also recovered well, 15 cases were need anti-hypertensive treatment. Conclusions: PRA, ALD and ARR test and spironolactone test were the main methods of PA qualitative diagnosis. B ultrasonography, CT or MRI were useful to the location of PA. The main treatment methods of PA were surgical.
