OBJECTIVE To help coal-miners learn prevention knowledge about AIDS/STD,improve aimed population percentage in learning and well behaviour,promote targeted one how to use intrautering device,eliminate and decrease risk factors about spread of AIDS/STD,prevent the spread of AIDS/STD,remove bias and fear to AIDS and accumulate experience to guard against AIDS/STD for further work by health education and behaviour intervention.METHODS Following stratified random sample,we selected as many as 595 male coal-miners from Baijiazhuang Mine,Du'erping Mine,Ximing Mine,Shanxi Coal Group,Shanxi Province, China,imparted them the knowledge of the spread ways,the prevent measures to AIDS/STD,the proper use of codom,voluntary conseling and testing,care to people with AIDS/STD.We investigated twice by one for one no named manner to hand in the questionnaires.All data were analysed by SPSS11.0 using qualitative and quantitative analysis to compare the knowledge,attitude, beliefs and practices re and after intervention.RESULTS 1.People who have been educated highly or slowly affect on health education.We compared ten questions with statistical significance in group after education,which were divided to five groups.The questions with statistical significance had six,eight and nine between primary school and junior middle school,between senior middle school and technical secondary school, between colleges,respectively.The questions with statistical significance had five and three between junior middle school and senior middle school,between colleges.The questions accorded between senior middle school and college re and after intervention.2.Coal-moners are mainly 20-to 40-year men,who are in their most sexually active stages of life.3.A percentage in answering right prevention knowledge about AIDS/STD increased from 51.13 per cent before intervention to 84.32 per cent after intervention.4.Health educationand beheaviour intervention promoted transformation of dangerous action.No-married sex percentage decreased from 32.44 per cent before intervention to 11.26 per cent after intervention.A percentage in using intrauterine device have rised from 31.14 per cent,8.29 per cent before intervention to 88.06 per cent,50.75 per cent after intervention at the last time,the lately three times,respectively.5.Coal-miners with AIDS/STD attidude to go to hospital changed obviously.A percentage of going to licentiate hospital increased from 15.29 per cent before intervention to 73.28 per cent afer intervention.6.A passive attitude to patient with AIDS/STD and their family changed,at least a despised one have decreased from 61.18 per cent before intervention to 16.29 per cent after intervention.7.Coal-miners wished to get information, playing card with relative knowledge what they'd better want,learning of producting safely and communicating with contemporaries.CONCLUSION Coal-miners from Shanxi Coal Group,China,who are mostly contract worker, mainly 20-to 39-year young men and a highly-sexed population,know less about AIDS/STD. Health education and beheavioural intervention cause people to master knowledge about AIDS/STD, decrease dangerous action and eliminate dangerous action and scorn.While we should pay close attention to rural health education and reinfore rural labour force prevention intervention.
