Objective:To compare antipsychotic alone and antipsychotic combination withpsychosocial intervention on cognitive function of schizophrenia. Methods:One hundred and twenty patients with schizophrenia were randomlydivided into antipsychotic group (n=80) and integrated group (n=80),which were treated by antipsychotic alone and antipsychotic combinationwith psychosocial intervention for three months. Cognitive function ofpatient was assessed by Wisconsion card sorting test(WCST), continuousperformance test(CPT), trail making test(TMT), digit-symbol test,digit-span test and visual reproduction. Symptoms of patients wereassessed by the positive and negative syndrome scale (PANSS).Results:1. The scores of PANSS had no significant difference before andafter treatment in both groups (P>0.05).2. After 3 months treatment, perseverative essors and total trials ofWCST, and digit-span test had significant improvement in antipsychoticgroup(P<0.05).Antipsychotic combination with psychosocial interventionhad significant effect on WCST, CPT, TMT, digit-span test and visualreproduction (P<0.05). 3. Antipsychotic combination with psychosocial intervention wassignificantly superior to antipsychotic alone in improving scores ofWCST, CPT, TMT, digit-span test and visual reproduction (P<0.05).4. Risperidone and aripiprazole were significantly superior tosulpiride and chorpromazine in improving scores of cognitive test(P<0.05).5. Significant correlation was not found between improvement ofcognitive function and that of schizophrenia symptoms (P>0.05).Conclusions:1. Antipsychotic combination with psychosocial intervention cansignificantly improve memory, attention and executive function ofschizophrenia, and it is significantly superior to antipsychotic alone.2. Risperidone and aripiprazole are more effective to improvecognitive function of schizophrenia than sulpiride and chorpromazine.
