ObjectiveThe purpose of the research was to investigate general self-efficacy and ways of coping and to discuss the correlation between these two variables among the baccalaureate nursing students, in order to provide basis for students' specialized ideological education and psychological health education.Methods257 baccalaureate nursing students in China Medical University were investigated, using General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) and Ways of Coping questionnaire.Results1. The baccalaureate nursing students' self-efficacy was consistent with Other medical professionals girls'. There were no significant differences between different grades or between urban and rural areas in the baccalaureate nursing students' self-efficacy. There were about 1/3 of students' self-efficacy were in the lower level.2. Problem-solving and helping-seeking were the most frequently adopted Ways of coping among the baccalaureate nursing students. Fantasy and with-drawal were also be often adopted, self-accusation was lest adopted. There were significant differences between different grades, students in grade 5 were less tended to adopt solving problem than students in grade 1 and grade 2 , students in grade 4 were more likely to adopt self-accusation and rationalization than students in grade 5, students in grade 4 were more likely to adopt rationalization than students in grade 5.3. Self-efficacy correlated with ways of coping significantly. It related positively to problem-solving and helping-seeking, but negatively to self-accusation, fantasy, with-drawal. Self-efficacy can predict problem-solving, helping-seeking, self-accusation and with-drawal to a certain degree. Students with higher self-efficacy were more tend to adopt problem-solving and helping-seeking, students with lower of self-efficacy were more tend to use self-accusation, fantasy and withdrawal. There were no significant differences between students with higher self-efficacy or with lower self-efficacy in rationalization.Conclusion1. 1/3 of the baccalaureate nursing students' self-efficacy were in the lower level, ways of coping their adopted presented mature and immature polarized phenomenon. It suggested that the training of the baccalaureate nursing students' self-efficacy and ways of coping needed to be further strengthened.2. Students in grade 5 are required to accept correlative education before entering clinical environment in order to adapt the clinical practice environment as soon as possible.3. There were significant relationship between self-efficacy and Ways of coping of the baccalaureate nursing students. Self-efficacy is an important factor of ways of coping. Students with high self-efficacy are more tended to adopt problem-solving and helping-seeking, students with low of self-efficacy are more tended to use self-accusation, fantasy and withdrawal.
