OBJECTIVE To investigate the incidence of nosocomial infection (NI) and its risk factors after liver transplantation (LT), explore the prevention and treatment strategy to lower the incidence of NI.METHODS Fifty four cases were investigated with Longitudinal study from Aug 2002 to Dec 2005 in the third hospital of XiangYa college, the Nosocomial Infections and it potenlial risk factors was investigated. The data was analysed with single factor analysis and conditional logistic regression analysis with SPSS 13.0.RESULTS 30 NI occurred in 54 LT cases, the rate of infection was 55.56%; the most frequent NI sites were pulmonary, blood, abdomen and biliary tract; 77.46% of them occurred within the first two weeks after operation; the pathogens were Gram-negative bacilli mainly (43.43%), then Gram-positive (39.39%) , and fungus (17.17%); the risk factors of NI including: duration of operation, quantity of blood transfusion during surgery, the duration of vein catheterization, the duration of peritonium drainage, and acute-rejection.CONCLUSIONS The incidence of NI in LT patients is 55.56%, the NI is commonly occurred in the first two weeks after operarion. The majority of pathogens were Gram-negative bacilli. The susceptible factors include hypoimmunity, invasive operation and using immunosuppressive drug. The risk factors of fungal infection is antibiotic abuse.
