Analysis On Surveillance Results Of Eliminating Iodine Deficiency Disorders In Fuxin City In 2005

Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) were a series of disorders resulted from iodine deficiency in human surroundings. China is the one of countries in which IDD is most serious. Since 1960s, iodized salt has been supplied universally to ID area and the status of iodine deficiency has been improved, but IDD was not been banished. Fuxin City, the emphasis of prevention and control of IDD in Liaoning Province, has reached the stage goal of eliminating IDD in 1999, and then has continued the comprehensive measures that were focused on iodized salt supplying. To realize the epidemic trend of IDD in Fuxin City, master the preventive and control effects of IDD, and evaluate whether Fuxin City has reached the national standard for eliminating IDD, this surveillance investigation of IDD was carried out in seven counties and sections of Fuxin City in 2005．Methods1 .Iodized salt was surveilled and investigated in certain wholesale enterprises and citizen families. The status of IDD was investigated by measuring the goiter rate and urinary iodine level. The healthy education was evaluated by calculating the cognitive rate of knowledge about IDD prevention and control.2．These objections were measured by united standard methods and compared with national standard for eliminating IDD (GB16006-1995) .3．We used Excel to input data and used Statistical Analysis Software (SAS, vision8．1) to analyse the results.ResultThe qualified rate of iodized salt was 94．85% in wholesale enterprises and the qualified iodine salt utilization rate was 96．04% in citizen. Total goiter rate of children was 2．08% by palpation and 1．66% by B ultrasound, respectively. The median of urinary iodine was 234．11μg/L. Urinary iodine level of 1．78% children was lower than 50μg/L and 0．36% children was lower than 20μ.g/L. The results of health education questionnaire found that the cognitive rate of knowledge about IDD was 96．3% among 5 grade students and was 99% among 20-40 years old women.ConclusionSalt iodine, urinary iodine and total goiter rate have already achieved the national standard for eliminating IDD. The preventive and control effects are remarkable in Fuxin City.
