ObjectiveTo study the relationship between diagnostic categories of simple obesepatients with Qi deficiency-caused phlegm stagnation and non-Qideficiceny-caused phlegm stagnation with the various indicators of serumleptin, adiponectin level, tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), insulin, thyroxine, serum lipids, blood pressure, and body mass index, so as to findout the correlation of these two categories of phlegm stagnation with thevarious indicators in the course of morbidity, so that not only an ojectivebasis of TCM diagnosis and treatment on simple obesity can be obtained, butalso has a better guide on clinical treatment.MethodsIn this research, 51 patients being diagnosed as Qi deficieny-caused phlegmstagnation and non-Qi deficiency-caused phlegm stagnation were enrolled inaccordance with《TCM Diagnostics》on the basis of clinical symptoms, fur andpulse condition, and were divided into two groups, in which 26 cases are forthe Qi group and 25 cases are for the non-Qi group. Measured indicators ofthe serum leptin, adiponectin level, tumor necrosis factor-α, insulin, thyroxine, serum lipids, blood pressure and body mass index, and adoptedSPSS12.0 software to process the above data, normal distribution measurementdate express in Mean+SD, indicating that differences between the groups usingsingle-factor analysis of variance, so as to reveal the relationship betweenthe TCM diagnostic categories and the various indicators. Meanwhile, 20 casesof persons attending this hospital for body check were selected as controlgroup, and measurement of serum leptin, adiponectin level, tumor necrosisfactor-α, insulin, thyroxine were taken from the two groups for comparison,so as to analyse the correlation of the above indicators with the pathogenesisof obesity.ResultsSerum insulin, thyroid hormone, leptin, adiponectin level, tumor necrosisfactor-αof these two categories of simple obese patients were closely relatedto the pathogenesis of obesity, and insulin, thyroxine, leptin, tumor necrosisfactor-αlevel were positively correlated with the disease, while adipoectinlevels were negatively correlated with the disease. It was also noted thatleptin, insulin levels in Qi deficiency-caused phlegm stagnation group was higher than that in non-Qi deficiency-caused phlegm stagnation group, and hasa stronger correlation in Qi deficiency-caused phlegm stagnation group ofobese patients. When comparing the BMI and SBP of obese patients with theQi deficiency group and the non-Qi deficiency group, they were foundpositively correlated with, but correlation of both categories in triglyceride, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein had nosignificant difference.ConclusionsThis study found that high level of leptin, thyroid, insulin, tumor necrosisfactor-αand low level of adiponectin were existed in simple obesity patients.Qi deficiency-caused phlegm stagnation played an important role in the TCMdiagnosis of obesity, in which the level of serum thyroid, insulin in the Qidefiency-caused phlegm stagnation group increased more obvious than the non-Qideficiency group. Differences of indicators in both groups have statisticalsignificance, thus the level of serum insulin, thyroxine as an objectiveindicator had a more clinical significance in the diagnosis of Qi deficiency-caused phlegm stagnation. The study also found that obese patients' SBP inthe Qi deficiency-caused phlegm stagnation group was higher than that in thenon-Qi deficiency-caused phlegm stagnation group, which suggested that obesepatients of Qi deficiency-caused phlegm stagnation category was moresusceptible to obesity-related hypertension that the non-Qi deficiency-causedphlegm stagnation category. Lipid in both categories had no significantdifference, and thus roles on the TCM diagnostic category was still uncertain.
