Objective: To investigate the relationship between the 5-HT1BRECEPTOR gene G861C, A-161T genotype, allele and alcohol dependence in Jinuopopulation of Yunnan province in China. Methods: Polymerase chainreaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RELP) was used to detect5-HT1B gone G861C, A-161T single nucleotide polyrnorphism in alcohol dependencegroup (n=84) and control group (n=50) in Jinuo population of Yunnan province. Thefrequencies of genotype and allele in two groups were calculated and compared. Results: (1) In Jinuo population of Yunnan province. The GG genotype of 5-HT1B0861C was more common. The frequency in alcohol dependence and control groupwere 30.9% and 44%. Allele G was more common. The frequency in two group were52.4% and 58%. There was no significant difference between alcohol dependantgroup and control group both at the genotype and allele level. (2) In Jinuopopulation of Yunnan province. The AA gcnotype of 5-HT1B A-161T was morecommon. The frequency in alcohol dependence and control group were 70.2% and88%. TT homozygote frequency in alcohol dependence was 6%. But it was not foundin control group. The allele A was more common both in two group. And frequencyof allele T in alcohol group is higher than in control group. The frequencies of allele Tin two group were 17.9% and 6%. The difference was significant between two groupsboth at genotype and allele. Conclusion: (1) The difference between alcoholdependence and control group at 5-HT1B receptor gene G861C was not significant inJinuo population of Yunnan province. There was no relationship between 5-HT1B receptor gene C861G polymorphism and alcohol dependence in this population. (2)There was significant difference of distribution of 5-HT1B receptor gene A-161Tpolymorphism between alcohol dependant group and control group in Jinuopopulation of Yunnan province. This results support an association between 5-HT1Breceptor A-161T polymorphism and alcohol dependence.
