As the transformation of medical model and the renovation of health concept, the nursing is now focusing on the welfare of human. The trans-cultural nursing theory instituted by the famous American nursing theorist Madeleine Leininger in 1960s is becoming increasingly popular in the worldwide. The overriding concern of trans-cultural nursing theory is aimed at providing comprehensive nursing service according to the specific cultural backgrounds, variable cultural needs as well as original cultural characteristic of different nursing objects. To keep pace with the high speed development of modern society, trans-cultural and trans-boundary communication of science and culture is now increasing at an unprecedented velocity. Trans-cultural nursing education is now posing a new challenge towards the development of nursing. Although the study upon the trans-cultural nursing in China is at nascent stage, the nursing education in China is now facing both opportunities as well as challenges. This research would serve as motivating force for the further development of trans-cultural nursing education in China.Research Purpose: Chiefly concerned with the recent status of trans-cultural nursing education in China among teachers and students as well as the pressing needs for developing trans-cultural nursing education based upon a series of inquires and studies, thisresearch focuses on the effective means to carry out trans-cultural nursing education in China.Research Methodology: This research is combined with mass data research, retrospective research and anonymous inquires. The pool of inquiry is composed of 99 teachers and 315 students from nursing institutes of 9 universities. The data is statistically processed with the SPSS14.0 software package.Research Tool:1,For teachers of nursing speciality: 5 questions are concerned with the individual situation; 10 questions are concerned with the comprehension standard of trans-cultural nursing; 20 questions are concerned with the implementation of trans-cultural nursing in nursing education; 5 questions are concerned with the advices for trans-cultural nursing.2,For students of nursing speciality: 5 questions are concerned with the individual situation; 20 questions are concerned with the comprehension standard of trans-cultural nursing; 10 questions are concerned with the implementation of trans-cultural nursing in nursing education; 5 questions are concerned with the advices for trans-cultural nursing.Research Results :Teachers: (total credit<0.5): 55.31%; (total credit>0.6): 44.69%; (total credit>0.9): 0. The mean credit of teachers'comprehension of trans-cultural education is positively relatedwith self-study ability.Students: (total credit<0.5): 44.44%; (total credit>0.6): 10.75%; (total credit>0.75) :0. Homogeneous analysis of variance for students of different regions : (F=1.033 p=0.310 ); the result is homogeneous. Independent sample t test for students of different regions (t=0.11238 p=0.91064 >0.05): There is no statistical difference among students of different regions concerning the comprehension of trans-cultural nursing.Conclusion:1,The overall situation of teachers'comprehension of trans- cultural nursing is not satisfying.2,The overall situation of teachers'comprehension of trans- cultural nursing is positively related with their reading habit.3,The overall situation of nursing graduates'comprehension of trans-cultural nursing is not satisfying.4,There is no statistical difference among students of different regions concerning the comprehension of trans-cultural nursing.5,More advices and expectation for both students and teachers insofar as developing feasible trans-cultural nursing education in China are needed.
