Objective: to summarize the representation and character of X-ray film and 16-row spiral CT routine scanning and pulmonary angiography of patients with pulmonary embolism, to evaluate the role of 16-row spiral CT pulmonary angiography in the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism, and summary the parameters and methods of the scanning and image reconstructing. Methods: the clinical representation and the signs of X-ray film and 16-row spiral CT routine scanning and pulmonary angiography of 40 patients with pulmonary embolism were observed in this study. The abilities to show the embolus in the pulmonary and the branches of tow deferent thickness three-dimension reconstructing images through MPR, MIP and VRT were analyzed. Results: the clinical representations of pulmonary embolism are too complex to exactly diagnose. Only the indirect sign were fund in the X-ray film and 16-row spiral CT routine scanning images. CTPA and DTV images can show not only the embolus in the main pulmonary arteries, lobar pulmonary arteries, segmental pulmonary arteries, subsegmental pulmonary arteries, fifth-order and sixth-order pulmonary arteries but also the embolus in these vessel and in the lower limbs deep thrombus. The abilities of tow deferent thickness reconstructing images(slice thickness 1.0 mm, increment 0.5 mm and slice thickness 0.75 mm, increment 0.4 mm) showing the vessel and embolus are indiscriminate. MPR images are better then the MIP and VRT images in showing the embolus, but it lacks third dimension. Conclusion: 16-row spiral CT routine scanning and pulmonary angiography associating with lower limbs deep vein angiography is good at diagnosing pulmonary embolism and Both the first signs and the second signs of pulmonary embolism can be well shown. CTPA is so valuable that it may be applied as a routine examination on diagnosing pulmonary embolism.
