ObjectiveFurther utilizing the statistics of death causes to analyze the characteristics and the change trend of the residents' death cause in this area in terms of the demographic size, composition and changes, characteristics of deaths, changes in the spectrum of death causes, the composition of leading death causes and the trend of the mortality rate, and to estimate and project the mortality profile during 2005 to 2010,so that to provide the scientific foundation for more effective decision making of health service in this area.MethodsData used for the analysis came from the DSP of Huantai county during the years from 1991 to 2005. The causes of death were classified and coded according to International Classification Diseases (ICD-9). Descriptive epidemiological methods were employed for this study. The best model came from Curve Estimation was used to analyze variation trends of the leading death causes during 1991—2005 and estimate and project mortality profile from 2005 to 2010. And all of the data were analyzed with Spss13.0 and Excel 2000 soft wares.Results1.The total death number from DSP (Disease Surveillance point) in Huantai county during 1991 to 2005 reached 10918, the total crude death rate (CDR) was 6.52‰(7.38‰for male,5.71‰for female), the standard mortality rate(SMR) was 4.37‰(5.00‰for male,3.82‰for female).2. Ranked as the death cause, the top 5 were the malignant neoplasm, cerebra-vascular disease, heart disease, injury and poisoning and diseases of the respiratory system, which were taken out of 89.11% of total deaths. The death rates of non-communicable diseases had been gradually increasing and become the major threats to human health.3. The total morality rate of population of DSP in Huantai county was increase year by year. The morality rate on malignant neoplasm, cerebra-vascular disease, heart disease of women and transport injury and poisoning were increase, meanwhile the morality rate on diseases of the respiratory system of men and suicide were decrease and the morality rate on injury, heart disease of men and the respiratory system diseases of women were on normal level.4. The rate of the years of potential life lost (YPLL) of the total death was 59.63‰, the sequence of the rate of YPLL from high to low was Injury and poisoning, Malignant neoplasm, heart disease, cerebra-vascular disease and the diseases of the respiratory system. The total average years of potential life lost (AYPLL) was 8.64.5. Cerebra-vascular disease and malignant neoplasm were the main causes of death among the elderly. Malignant neoplasm sand and injury and poisoning were the main causes of death among the middle-aged and the adolescents. The diseases of the injury and poisoning and certain condition originating in the perinatal period mainly endangered infants. Adolescents and the elderly were mainly endangered by injury and poisoning.ConclusionWe should put the emphasis on the prevention and treatment of injury poison and malignant neoplasm. Different intervention strategy and measures should be taken based on major death causes of disease, target population and the main influence factors in disease prevention and health promotion in this area. Suggestions1. Setting up the public health institution and health network to smooth implement all preventive strategies is a key step.2. Carrying out health education and community health promotion3. The prevention and control of non-communicable chronic diseases and research on risk factors of poisonings and injuries should be strengthen.4. To control the quality of disease Surveillance through further consolidating and improving the registration and reporting system of birth and mortality...
