| Cognitive function is the ability to deal with and have normal react to information. It refers to how to resolve problem, information exchange, remember, concentrate on your work, and so on, all of which dependent on the information process by neuron. Temporal lobe epilepsy is the most common partial epilepsy, which have amnesia as the most significant cognitive disorder. The value to research cognitive function in temporal lobe epilepsy is for which can provide useful information to diagnose early cognition damage. EEG and event-related potentials are both common tools in clinic. ObjectiveObserve the Quantitative EEG and Event-related potentials (P300) in temporal lobe epilepsy, in order to evaluate the value of the two tools in research cognitive function of temporal lobe epilepsy.MethodsWe record the quantitative EEG and exam the P300 in interictal temporal lobe epilepsy patients, mainly observe the quantitative EEG and P300 latency, amplitude and reaction time. Results1. The S score of quantitative EEG in T6 area have the significant difference between the duration of more than 5 years group and less than 1 years group, as where as more than 1 years but less than 5 years group; The S score in O2 area have the significant difference between the duration of more than 5 years group and more than 1 years but less than 5 years group; Right temporal lobe epilepsy has the large S score in F8, T4 and T6 area than left temporal lobe epilepsy, which have the significant difference, while left temporal lobe epilepsy has the large S score in T3 and 01 area than right temporal lobe epilepsy, which also have the significant difference.2. The abnormity rate of P300 in epilepsy group is 54.76%; P300 latency, amplitude and reaction time are significant different between epilepsy group and control group.3. The abnormity rate of P300 in left temporal lobe epilepsy group is 77.78%, respectively, 37.50% in right temporal lobe epilepsy, whichhave significant difference between these two groups.4. Both the left and right temporal lobe epilepsy have the P300 latency and reaction time slightly prolonged to control group in CZ and PZ area, which has the significant difference, while there is no difference between the left and right temporal lobe epilepsy groups. The left temporal lobe epilepsy have the low P300 amplitude to both right lobe temporal epilepsy and control group in CZ and PZ area, which have significantly difference.5. The abnormity rate of P300 in normal EEG background group is 50.00%; Both sight abnormal EEG background group and moderate abnormal EEG background group have the significantly difference to the control group for the P300 latency in CZ and PZ area; Sight abnormal EEG background group have the significantly difference to the control group for the P300 amplitude in CZ and PZ area.Conclusion1. The longer duration of temporal lobe epilepsy, the much more damage to the brain function of right back hemisphere (right occipital foci, right back temporal foci).2. There is reduce of brain function in the same hemisphere of temporal lobe epilepsy, which is mainly localize to temporal foci and near by.3. Patient of temporal lobe epilepsy have cognitive function disorder, among which left temporal lobe epilepsy is prominently.4. P300 is more sensitive to Quantitative EEG in evaluate early cognitive function change. |
