Objective: Through the investigation and analysis on the popular and risk factor of diabetes in city and countryside in Dalian, we can provide scientific evidence for intervention study on diabetes. Methods: 1138 people aged 20~74 were selected from four streets in two communities of Dalian by cluster random sampling, two streets of which to be attached to suburban area and village, and then be carried out investigation by questionnaires and medical examination. Last,we carry through statistical analysis with SPSS11.5 statistics software.Results:1. The prevalent level of diabetes and the prevalence according to gender or age The prevalent of diabetes has significant differences between three districts(P<0.05), which is the highest in Suburban dweller (15.90%), then are the city dweller (10.68%),and the suburban dweller is the lowest (8.83%); The prevalence of diabetes has no sex differences(P>0.05); The prevalence of diabetes increased with the increasing of age(P<0.01).2. The study on the complication of diabetesThe prevalent of hypertension and coronary artery disease are higher than nephronia, retinopathy and stroke. At the same time, it is common that the diabetic has more than one complication.3. The study on the risk factors of diabetesThe factors concerned with diabetes were age, family history, hypso-waist-to- hipratio, baric index, and fruit eating (P<0.05).4. The level of recognition of diabetes in three districtsThe level of recognition of diabetes in three districts inhabitant was 50~80%; There are no difference between the rate of the three districts inhabitant who know thatwhich are the symptom of diabetes, the fat person has the liability of diabetes, the diabetic patients need to control weight and increase exercise, and the diabetic patients has the liability of hypertension, coronary artery disease, oculopathy and nephronia (P>0.05). There are significant deviation between the rate of the three districts inhabitant who know that diabetes has inheritance (P<0.05).5. The detection rate of diabetic in three districtsThe detection rate of diabetic displayed that the suburban dweller(8.11%)was higher than that in country dweller(4.44%),and country dweller is higher than that in city dweller(4.13%),and there are significant deviation between the rate of suburban dweller and city dweller (P<0.05).Conclusion:1. The prevalent level of diabetes are all higher than the consequence of sample survey in 1996.And the prevalent of diabetes has significant differences between three districts (P<0.05), which is the highest in Suburban dweller than that of city dweller and suburban dweller.2. The prevalent of hypertension is the highest in all the complication of diabetes. Also, it is common that the diabetic has more than one complication.3. The risk factors of diabetes were years, baric index, hypso-waist-to-hipratio(>0.9)and family history. So we should establish a system to hold back the quick increasing trend of diabetes by controlling body weight and enhancing exercise.4. The level of recognition of diabetes in three districts are all lower, so we should publicize the knowledge of diabetes ,and this will be important ways to prevent and control diabetes.5. The detection rate of diabetic displayed that the suburban dweller was higher than that in country dweller, and country dweller is higher than that in city dweller. So, we should enhance the health census in the future.
