| Objective: Graft-to-tunnel healing is a significant factor in ACL reconstruction, but there have been few studies on the effect of different graft-tunnel diameter match on intraosseous healing of the Achilles tendon graft. The objective in this study identify our hypothesis that small diameter graft tunnel will enhancement intraosseous healing of the Achilles tendon graft. Methods: Sixteen adult mongrel dogs were divided into four groups with four dogs in each group. Each dog underwent bilateral knee surgery in which the Achilles tendon was transplanted as an ACL reconstruction graft. The tendon was then sharply trimmed parallel to the fiber orientation so that the tendon could be passed through a 4-mm diameter sheath. The graft tunnel diameter is different in each group . They are 5mm,4.5mm,4mm and 3.5mm . All animals were killed at 6 and 12 weeks postoperation, and their knees had been examined macroscopically, light microscopy and biomechanically. |
