Health is one of the basic concepts in nursing and the foundation for the nursing theory development and also the ultimate goal to pursue in nursing. The exploration of health concept is vital for identifying the uniqueness of nursing discipline. However, health is a cultural concept, only the health concept derived from the local context is meaningful for the construction of native nursing theory, and guiding nursing practice and education as well. In China, literature shows there is a lack of study on the native definition of health, especially for the adult.This study is aimed at exploring the individual health concept as well as its development and change among the local adult in Chengdu, by applying Clandinin and Connelly's three-dimensional narrative inquiry research method. Audio-taped in-depth face-to-face interview was conducted to ten participants for data collection and three-dimensional narrative analysis was used to construct meaningful health stories of participants.
