A study on HIV/ AIDS related behavioral surveillance among female commercial sex workers and injecting drug users in Xichang city Objective: to study the trend of HIV related high risk behaviors and the influencing factors among female sex workers and injecting drug users, and evaluate effects of the intervention for providing basis for HIV/ AIDS prevention and control. Methods epidemiological investigation questionnaire in Xichang were carried out with cluster and convenience sampling for obtaining social demographic characteristics and HIV related behaviors and HIV infecting prevalence; chi-square test and logistic regression were used. Results most of CSW are under 30years old (the youngest is 15), and their education levels mainly are junior middle school or below; their knowledge related HIV/AIDS have been improved obviously, and the proportion of condom use when having sex contact with casual partners were 97.4% in 2005, it has been improved obviously (x~2 =5.64 P<0.05). The factors related to condom use are education and the score of HIV/AIDS related knowledge. Most of injecting drug users are in middle age or young people, and their education levels mainly are junior middle school or below. The proportion of most recent sharing needle with others among IDUs is 8.6% in 2005. the proportion of condom use when having sex contact with casual partners is 48.9%. IDUs' knowledge related HIV/ AIDS have been improved remarkably through health education, and their high-risk behaviors have been changed by the intervention. It indicated that sharing needle was related to education level and the injection drug frequency in latest month. Conclusion The effects of intervention are remarkable. Health education and intervention program should be continued according to local cultures, situations and high risk groups' needs.
