Objective: To evaluate expression of interleukin-8 gene and its relationship with clinical-pathological parameters in breast cancerMethods: The IL-8 mRNA on breast was measured by a real-time quantitative PCR in 110 cases of breast cancer and adjuvant normal breast tissues. The ratio of tumor and normal tissue (T/N) of IL-8 mRNA expression was calculated for each case. Estogen recepot(ER) and progestgen receptor(PR) and CerbB-2 were tested by immunohistochemical assay in 110 cases of breast cancer to analysis the relationship between IL-8 mRNA T/N expression and clinical-pathological parameters.Results:IL-8 mRNA was detectable in all 110 cases of breast cancer tested. Using T/N ratio≥2 as cut-off point, 55.5%(61/110) of tumors were over expression in 110cases of breast cancer. Significant statistical difference was found between the T/N ratio of IL-8 mRNA expression and lymph node involvement. The patients ofⅡclinical staging had higher IL-8 mRNA T/N ratio than those ofⅢclinical staging, there are significant, statistical difference between them.IL-8 expression was clearly overexpressed in most ER-negative breast cancer, whereast no significant level coulded bedetdcted in ER-positive breast cancer.IL-8 expression was clearly overexpressed in most PR-negative breast cancer , whereast no significant level coulded bedetdcted in PR-positive breast cancer.Unfortantely,no statistical difference was found between the T/N ratio of IL-8 mRNA expression and the patient median age and histopathology and tumor size and CerbB-2.
