Objective: The aim of this study is to discuss the clinical value of AHSG in making a diagnosis of glioma through inspecting the change of AHSG levels in CSF of patients and tumor tissue with glioma,benign tumor( meningio ma,pituitary adenoma ) and non-tumor. Methods: The AHSG levels in CSF of patients collected in three different groups(glioma,benign tumor and non-tumor group) were determined by ELISA method, while corresponding tumor samples were preserved. The AHSG expression levels in all collected samples included normal brain tissue resected in brain injury operation were measured by immunohistochemical staining method .Results: (1) The AHSG level in CSF of glioma group is significantly higher than non- tumor group (P<0.05),while the AHSG level in benign tumor group is significantly higher than non-tumor group (P<0.05). The AHSG level in CSF of glioma group is not significantly higher than benign tumor group (P>0.05).(2) The AHSG levels in CSF of glioma and benign tumor group are positively correlational with tumor volume (P<0.05), while they are negatively correlational with least distance to ventricular system tumor approach (P<0.05). Moreover, they are not correlational with age,contrast enhancement(P>0.05). The AHSG levels in CSF of glioma group are negatively correlational with the malignant degree of glioma significantly. (3) The AHSG expression levels in glioma and benign tumor group respectively are significantly higher than that of non-tumor group (P<0.05),while they are respectively significantly higher than that of normal brain tissue group (P<0.05). The AHSG expression level of non-tumor group is not significantly higher than that of normal brain tissue group(P>0.05).
