The Therapeutic Effect Of Treatment With Combining The Cannulated Screws With Chinese Herbal Medicine For The Femoral Neck Fractures

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the healing rate and the incidence of avascular necrosis of femoral hand, as well as the improvement of hip motion for femoral neck fractures by treatment with combining the cannulated screws with Chinese herbal medicine.METHODS: 95 cases of femoral neck fractures treated with the cannulated screws from January 2000 to June 2003, Chinese herbal medicine having been used in 49 cases of them. By clinical observation and radiograph, the healing rate and the incidence of avascular necrosis of femoral hand, as well as the improvement of hip motion will be evaluated. RESULT: The rate of nonunion with combining the cannulated screws with Chinese herbal medicine(8.16%) is lower significantly than with using the cannulated screws simply (23.9%) (P<0.05),as well as the incidence of avascular necrosis of femoral hand(18.38% and 30.44%)(P> 0.05).The hip motion is improved more greatly by treatment of combining the cannulated screws with Chinese herbal medicine (79.6%) than without Chinese herbal medicine (60.7%) (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The improvement of hip motion and the healing rate of femoral neck fractures can be improved greatly by treatment with combining the cannulated screws with Chinese herbal medicine. However,The healing rate and the incidence of avascular necrosis of femoral hand can not be sure yet.
