Current Research Situation On Congenital Cataract

Congenital cataract is the common cause of childhood blindness, there're about two hundred thousand children who become blind for that every year in the whole world. The reason of congenital cataract is multiple, about one third is related to genetic factor and genic mutation, one third is environmental factor, the rest is unknown. Now the research emphasize on genetic factor and genic mutation, it has already found that crystallin gene, gap junction protein gene, endogenous membrane protein gene, cytoskeletal protein gene, heat shock protein gene and Homebox gene are the most significant genes which are related to congenital cataract. The mode of inheritance can be divided into three types-autosomal dominant inheritance, autosomal recessive inheritance and X-linked inheritance, among them autosomal dominant inheritance is the most common one.
