Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have a high incidence of atherosclerosis (AS) ,which leads to increased mortality from coronary disease (CAD) ,cerebrovascular disease and peripheral vascular disease (PVD) .When atherosclerosis happened with carotid artery ,the brain blood supply decreased for blood vessel stenosis and cerebral ischemic and infarction occurred. Using high sensitive B-mode ultrasonography detecting Intimal-Media Wall Thickness (IMT) of carotid artery is a noninvasive quantitative methods to evaluate carotid artery AS. This method is very good for its sample and direct observation, but it need expensive equipment and skilled operator, what's more it cost patient much. Finding a serum marker to evaluate carotid artery AS is very necessary .Serum amyliod A (SAA) is mainly secreted by liver, during acute or chronic inflammation disease, SAA level can be observed to increase to a high level. Nowadays ,with the conception that atherosclerosis is a inflammatory disease being receipted by more and more researchers ,the function of SAA during the atherosclerosis processing become a newly hot point. SAA was used to be connected with Systemly reactived amyloidosis, and proved to be the precursor of amyloid A. SAA is a kind of apoprotein, it can inhibiting HDL's RCT function ,and through this way increase serum cholesterol level and increase cholesterol deposit to AS site. Meek RL,et al observed serum...
