Xiangdan injection which is used to geriatric cardiovascular and cerebrovascular system is effective to improve the blood of microcirculation. Although it is clinical general medicine ,but there is still no report about injecting on the tip of bone fracture to promote the union of fracture. Xiangdan injection is composed of extratives from salvia miltiorrhiza, rosewood and some other herbs, and it is made into ampul by modern praeparatum artwork . It has been demonstrated that salvia miltiorrhiza has satisfactory curative effect on the union of femoral neck fracture. Based on this, orthopedists who worked in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang Traditional Chinese Medicine University , proved that xiangdan injection can obviously promote the absorption of haematoma on the tip of the bone fracture , effectively enhance osteotylus to grow , accelerate the union of fracture , and obviate or decrease the incidence rate of complication of femoral neck fracture in three years.Objective: To understand the effect of Xiangdan injection in promoting the union of fracture and investigate its mechanism of action . Methods: Fracture model that is completely defective in the middle of double side radial bone is made by operation. Rabbits were randomized into the Xiangdan group ,the blank group and the control group .Each group were given Xiangdan injection, Sodium Chloride and Shangkejiegupian in proper order. The experiment was to study about the score of X-ray on osteotylus , the determination of bone density, the test of vitodynamics, the observation ofpathohistology, and the measurement of perimeter diameter on the bone fracture. Result: In the eighth days ,it was observed by pathohistology that the haematoma was obviously absorbed and the thrombus, small bessels and cellulose was evidently decreased on the tip of the bone fracture in the Xiangdan group. There was no significant differences between the Xiangdan group and the control group ,the blank group about measurement of perimeter diameter on the bone fracture (p< 0.05 或 p<0.01) . In the fifteenth days, the radial bone density ,the score of X-ray on osteotylus in the Xiangdan group ,the control group and the blank group showed relatively significant differences (p<0.05) , and the Xiangdan group was better than the control group and the blank group in the observation of pathohistology. In the twenty-second days, the Xiangdan group was relative different from the control group and the blank group in the radial bone density, the score of X-ray on osteotylus (p<0.05 或 p<0.01) , and was better than the control group and the blank group in pathohistology. In the thirty-first days, the Xiangdan group was different from the control group and the blank group in the test of radial vitodynamics, bone density, the score of X-ray on osteotylus (p <0.05 或 p<0.01) , and it was better than the other groups in pathohistology. Conclusion: Xiangdan injection plays the important role on the union of fracture in the early middle later stage of the bone fracture. The characteristic of Xiangdan injection is to improve the part blood circulation of the bone fracture, increase the quantity of the cells, promote the cell differentiation and maturity, accelerate formation of thecollagen, speed up the deposition of calcium salts, elevate the quality of osteotylus and enhance the intensity of bones.
