Objective: To investigate the way of treatment and the timing of operation for patients with acute cholecystitis. Methods: From January 1995 to December 2003, the clinical material of 232 cases with acute cholecystitis hospitalized in our hospital were analysed retrospectively. We redivided into two groups, early cholecystectomy group (EC) and delayed cholecystectomy group (DC). The data including timing of operation, duration of operation, hospitalized duration, and the surgical complication were retrospectively analyzed. In the material, the olders (≥60 岁) of 64 cases with acute cholecystitis were analysed too. Results: In EC group, hospitalized duration, duration of operation and hospitalized cost were significantly shorter than that in DC group(p <0.05), surgical complications(bile duct injury, respiratory infection, wound infection) were no significant differences between two groups, except wound infection. In the older cases, the parameters did not reach statistical significance between two groups. Conclusion: E arly cholecystetomy should be firstly chosen in the patients of acute cholecystitis, including the olders.
