| Objective: Research on the efficacy and mechanism of catgut—embedding and electroacupuncture treatment for simple obesity.Method: According to the sign and symptoms differentiation and pattern differentiation principles, perform clinical observation and treatment for two groups of patients with simple obesity by using catgut—embedding and electroacupuncture treatment methods. A full electroacupuncture treatment includes 20 times of electroacupuncture therapy, and a full catgut—embedding treatment includes 6 times of catgut — embedding therapy. Both groups are treated for approximately 2 months. Observe the effects of BMI and symptoms of the patients after the treatments.Result: After a full treatment, both groups showed improvement. The catgut-embedding group showed 86. 67 % improvement and the electroacupuncture group showed 68. 89 % improvement. The catgut — embedding group showed higher efficacy(P<0. 05). By comparing the two groups after treatments, P<0. 05. The catgut —embedding group's and the electroacupuncture group' s BMI are 51. 11 % and 73. 33 % respectively, the electroacupuncture group showed higher efficacy(P<0. 05). Conclusion: Both catgut—embedding and electroacupuncture are one of the effective methods for treating simple obesity. Patients with significant clinical symptoms or restricted by treatment time, catgut—embedding would be the treatment option. With patient able to come for treatment more frequently, electroacupuncture would be the treatment option. The mechanism of both treatments is by regulating the body system via various of organs, tissues and metabolising pathways, in order to promote normal function of nerves, body fluids, endocrine and metabolism. |
