Application Of Behavior Surveillance Survey In HIV/AIDS Prevention Program Along Baoshan-Longling Highway Construction Sites

A lot of people from different places act as road construction workers in building highway. Highway construction accelerates local economy,but HTV/AIDS may also spread along the road and influence the road construction worker. Lear about behaviors related to HIV/AIDS is useful for protecting construction worker health as well as for early warning epidemic trend. Behaviors surveillance survey (BSS) is an important part of HIV/AIDS surveillance. Behavior data could be used for explaining trends recorded in HIV/AIDS; informing effective intervention strategy; program planning and evaluating program. So that it could used to advance and improve national responds. This study bases on baseline survey of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) prevention program (HAPP) which is implemented along the highway construction site between Baoshan and Longling. Learn about feasibility of Behavior Surveillance Survey (BSS) among road construction workers. Social stratification theory was applied in this resarch. The results reveals: (1) it is necessary to conduct BSS during HAPP implementation; (2) it is feasible to conduct BSS during HAPP implementation; (3) road construction workers made higher score on HIV/AIDS knowledge while still had some incorrect beliefs. (3) vulnerability to HIV/AIDS of road construction workers with their social stratification varies significantly, according to different risk behaviors. Moreover, several recommendations and implementations about the HAPP are suggested, and in-depth discussions about BSS are discussed.
