Leonurus heterophyllus Sweet is a grass widely distributed in the Eurasia, which belong to Labiatae family. It possesses the functions of promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis, detumescense and diuresis. It is available in curing irregular mensturation, puerperal congestion, cardiocerebrovascular diseases, blood diseases and so on.From the water extract, 95% ethanol extract and 70% ethanol extract of the aerial part of Leonurus heterophyllus Sweet, by solvent extraction, chromatograghic and recrystalllized methods, 11 compounds were isolated. On the basis of their physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic analysis, their structures were identified as tiliroside (1), rutine(2), quercetin3-O-robinobioside (3), megstigmane (4), leonurine (5), ajugoside (6), 2, 6-dimethyl -2E, 7-octadiene-1, 6-diol (7), syringic acid (8), benzoic acid (9), β-sitosterol (10), daucosterol (11). Among them, compounds 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 were isolated from this genus for the first time.Because of many labdane diterpenoids with some biological activities in this genus, a review on the NMR character of labdane diterpenoids was summarized based on the spectral data of the related references. The uterotonic properties of some different extracts are tested on isolated rat uterus, and the results showed that the crude alkaloids and phenolic acids were significant activities.
