Study On Occupational Health Status Of Benzene-Related Enterprises In Qingdao

OBJECTIVE: Benzene has been widely used as important raw material as well as organic dissolvent in industrial manufactures. Pollutions from benzene has been realized as urgent problems in the field of public health. To obtain reasonable evidences for prevention against benzene poisoning, special investigation were held for fundamental information about occupational public health in enterprises concerned with benzene in Qingdao.METHODOLOGY: The investigation were held by the health supervising station of Qingdao health bureau. 165 enterprises concerned with benzene were investigated respectively in 10 industries of publishing, shoe manufacturing, leather bag, house facility, handcraft, chemical industry etc. The investigation was consisted of contents listed below:1. General status about the enterprises concerned with benzene: ownership, industrial type, regional distribution; 2. Conditions about occupational public health in the enterprises: densities of benzene synthetics detected in the working site or manufacturing surroundings, especially those of benzene, toluene, occupational health monitoring systems for publics exposed in benzene synthetics, equipment and application of protective facilities in working places individual protective equipment;3. Density of benzene in the materials used by the enterprises concerned with benzene.4. Health status of occupational publics exposing in benzene, epidemic information about occupational benzene poisoning cases from 2002 to 2005.MAIN RESULTS:1. 44.2% of the 165 enterprises concerned with benzene are China-foreign joint ventures, and 20% of them are private enterprises.
