Anemia is a frequent complication of cancer, occurring in more than 50% of patient with malignances. There are increasing evidences to suggest that anemia may negatively impacting quality of life and affecting tumor response to radiotherapy or chemotherapy, and may be used as an independent factor to evaluating prognosis of cancer patients. But it is often under-recognized and under-treated.We collected data of 319 colorectal cancer patients, who admitted to our hospital during January 2001 and December 2002. Then those related factors of anemia of colorectal cancer were analyzed by SPSS kit (10.0 version). There were 117 patients (36.67%) have anemia, the other 202 (63.33%)patients' hemoglobin level were normal. There were 77 cases (24.1%) of right hemicolon cancer, colorectal cancer of other sites were 242 cases (75.9%). There were 50 cases were hypoproteinemia (15.70%), the level of albumin of 269 cases (84.3%) were normal. Ultimately, it was demonstrated that the occurrence of anemia of colorectal cancer were related to gender, the level of hypoproteinemia, site, and stage of disease, through conditional logistic regression.Simultaneously, we collected data of 251 primary bronchogenic carcinoma of lung patients, who admitted to our hospital between January, 2001 and December, 2001. Then those related factors of anemia of lung cancer were analyzed by SPSS (version 10.0) kit. There were 182 male patients (72.5%), the other 69 (27.5%) patients were female. There were anemia patients 75 cases (29.9%), hypoproteinemia patients 242 cases (75.9%), and 54 patients have accepted adjuvant chemotherapy. Finally, through conditional logistic regression we can make a conclusion that the occurrence of lung cancer patients' anemia was related to stage of disease, chemotherapy, and the level of serum albumin. Then we used the Chinese version of the functional assessment of cancer therapy-general (FACT-G) scale, which was translated by the university of Hong Kong, Zung questionnaire to evaluate quality of life of admitting patients, and then analyze the impaction of anemia and pain to the quality of life of cancer patients.Multivariate ANOVA demonstrated that the divergent of total scale of FACT-G between anemia and hemoglobin level normal patients invalidity, P value of physical subscale and functional subscale are 0.011, 0.023, respectively, both significant correlations are less than 0.05. These results shewed that anemia may have some degree impaction on the quality of life of cancer patients. But due to time, fee, those tools of assessment of quality of life were not special enough, and so on, the finally results of this study were impacted.
