Objecttive: To measure the verus inclination of the proximal tibial of young Chinese volunteers' through radiographs and determine how many degrees should the femoral prothesis be externally rotationed during TKA for Chinese. Methods .'Standardized anteroposterior radiographs of the entire lower legs of 100 volunteers' were taken. Two angles were measured as followes: Angle PT: angle between tibial articular margins and a line perpendicular to the tibial mechanical axis;Angle FT:angle between the transcondylar tangent and a line perpendicular to the tibial mechanical axis. When got the values, gave them a stastical analysis of gender and side .And also compared them with the Angle FT got by Moreland and Angle PT got by Cooke. The used analysical software was SPSS(10.0) and all the dates were compared statiscally with Student's-test.Results: To normal Chinese, Angle PT has a mean value of 4.06±2.03° and Angle FT is 5.00±2.14° .There was no significant stastical difference between the two sides and genders of the Chinese. In the similar researches done in the western,Moreland reported the mean value of Angle FT of his research was: left:2.6±1.4° , right:3.0±1.6° ; and Cooke's mean value of Angle Ptwas:3.3±2.2° .Compared our dates with Moreland's and Cooke's respctively with Student's-test,and we found that there were significant statistical differences betweenthem(p<0.0001),which meant the angles we got were largerer than those got by Moreland and Cooke. Conclusion: As to the results got abovely,we may get a conclusion that the Chinese has a more verus inclination of the proximal tibial than that of the westeren's. When the posterior condylar axis is used during TKA for Chinese to determine the rotational degree of the femoral prosthesis ,the femoral prothesis should be externally rotationed 5 ° to get the optimum rotational orientation.
