Objective: To improve the learning quality as the students' mastery and practical abilities were promoted by constructing and applying the web-based course and courseware of acupuncture and moxibustion. Furthermore, the relationship and functions of the E-learning and traditional learning on the undergraduate education of acupuncture and moxibustion would be discussed. Methods:1. Constructing web-based course of acupuncture and moxibustion which is adapt to the undergraduate by the technology of computer, network and multimedia, according to the pedagogical psychological theories such as constructivism and personality theory as well as didactical design theory. The original sources consist from the national canonical teaching material of acupuncture and moxibustion, the teaching characteristics and experiences of the staff room of acupuncture and moxibustion in Fujian university of traditional Chinese medicine and the associated clinical datas.2.The course will be applied in the multimedia classroom on the 01 grade I of TCM (undergraduate,94 students) when finished as the self-determination and collaborative learning carry out through the internet at the same time. At the middle and end of the semester, besides there are questionnaires to evaluate the effects of the course and learning, the students' scores of theory and manipulation also will be the evaluation standards to the learning effect. The control group is 00 grade II of TCM (undergraduate,82 students) who learn in a traditional multi-media educational environment.3.Disccusing the relationship and functions of the web-based and traditional education on acupuncture and moxibustion education according to the results .Results:1.The means of the students' questionnaire is 86.92 and the teachers' is 86.21, both the resultspass the evaluation standards.2.The scores of the manipulation , middle of the semester's theoretical test and integration arebetter in the test group than the control group with the remarkable differences (P<0.01).However, the score of the end of the semester's theoretical test is worse than the control groupwith no statistical difference between them(P>0.05). The results show us that the applicationof the course will improve the students' abilities of the manipulation and the theoretical level.Conclusions:l.The mode of combining traditional learning with web-based learning not only can improvethe learning effect since they have the inter-complement functions, but provide the studentsand teachers a chance to study and teach in an unrestricted environment, and communicatefreely.2.The self-determination and interactive learning which are made according to thepedagogical theories and the theory of didactical design applied in the course adapt to thestudents' cognition in favor of studying from the process of knowledge constructing. Theself-determination, interaction and collaboration of the students are improved as a result. Atthe same time, the varieties of educational resources and the multi-medias promote thestudents' enthusiasm greatly.3.The videos, images and music applied in the course are small which favor to transmit faston INTERNET and adapt to the level of network in our university. It can be spreaded andapplied abroad as the teaching contents are reliable and management is standard.
