Clinical Observation On Post Stroke Depression Treated By "Xing Nao Kai Qiao" Acupuncture Therapy

Objective: To discuss the feasibility of "Xing Nao Kai Qiao" ("XNKQ") acupuncture therapy on post stroke depression(PSD) .Observe the therapeutic effect on neurologic impairment and self-caring ability which base on "XNKQ" acupuncture therapy and the medicine of Amafnanil.Methods: Ninety-two PSD patients were divided into the acupuncture group and the control group randomly. Besides the conventional treatment the acupuncture group was selected with "XNKQ" acupuncture therapy and the psychology instruction. The control group was selected with Amafnanil and the psychology instruction. Before and in the end of treatment, we assessed ADL by Barthel index (BI), degree of neurological deficit by the Modified Scandinavian stroke scale (MSSS) and depressive symptomatology by Hamilton depression rating scale for depression (HRSD). And we also anlysed the relation between depression degree with neurological deficit degree or ADL. The data was analyzed by SPSS11.5 software.Results:1 The scores of HRSD of two groups have remarkable difference before and after treatment (P<0.01) . And the acupuncture group has no significant compared with the comtrol group (P>0.05) .Then this result shows the acupuncture of "XNKQ" has efficacy as same as western medicine .2 Two groups have remarkable improvement in quality of life and nerve function before and after treatment. Amelioration level of acupuncture group is better than control group. There is significance between two groups (P<0.05). and it explain that the acupunture of "XNKQ" is better than western medicine .3 The reducing rate of the scores has positve relating with the reducing of the MSSS' scores and the increasing of the BI's scores (the R value is 0.618 and 0.515 respectively; P<0.01 ). The results explain that, in the PSD patients, the inprovement of the depression serious degree advances to the nerve fuction improvements and the ADL promoting each other.
