Objective: To investigate the expression of c-myc gene in the anterior capsules of age-related cataractand normal lens and discuss its significance.Materials and methods: The expression of c-myc gene in 30 age-related cataracts and 20 normal lenswas detected by semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).Results: The relative expression of c-myc gene in the anterior capsules of age-related cataract was0.849±0.012 and that in normal ones was 0.687±0.012. It meant the expression of c-myc gene in theanterior capsules of age-related cataract was higher than that of normal lens, and the difference was ofsignificance (P<0.05).Conclusion: The expression of c-myc gene in the anterior capsules of age-related cataract was higherthan that of normal lens. These results suggest that the abnormal expression of c-myc gene play animportant role in the occurrence and development of cataract. |
