OBJECTIVE:Airway remodeling is a gradual pathological process in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) and bronchial asthma. The mechanism of airway remodeling has not been cleer. But it has been known that a lot of factors including bacteria, virus, allergy or the harmful gas like smoke participate in the process. "Injury-Repair theory" and "Epithelial-Mesenchymal Nutritional unit theory" are the two main theories of airway remodeling, which are not contradictory but complementary to each other. The main changes of airway remodeling are thickening of smooth muscle and deposit of extracellar matrix, in addition of subepithelium fibrosis, hyperplasia of cup cell and mucusgland that result in obstructive airflow with different degree that shape pathological transform. And that increase the difficult to cure it.It has been reported that transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β1) play the role of many fibrosis diseases such as hepatic fibrosis and it is one of the most grievous factors that result in fibrosis. Study has indicated that Salvia Multiorrhiza can resist the process of fibrosis. In this report, a serial studies were carried out to explore the relationship of TGF-β1 with airway remodeling. Accoding to TCM theory, the Position of COPD is in the lung meridian and related with lung, spleen and kidney, And Deficiency of qi together with blood and Phlegm stasis are the key Pathogenesis. In the thesis, according to its pathogenesis of blood stasis, we choose Salvia Multiorrhiza as the medicine eliminating blood stasis to observe its protecting effects for airway remodeling and explore its potential menchanism.METHODS:This research includes three parts. Firstly:one model of airway remodeling in COPD was established and physiopathological indices...
