| Objective:We studied the mortality rates of malignanttumors in SheXian, Hebei province China from 1974 to 2002 inorder to find out the sex and age characteristic, and to know themain tumor and taget population, then we can serve for thework on prevention and treatment. At the same time, accordingthe result, we can put out a project with pertinence, feasibilityand forcast; the results may make people understand the cancerbetter, provide clue for the pathogeny research and serve forsolving down-to-earth matter.Methods:Hebei Cancer Institute has carried out three timesinvestigation on the cause of death of mallignant tumor,respectively in 1970's (from 1974 to 1976), 1980's (from 1984to 1986) and 1990's (from 1990 to 1992). Data of the newcentury (from 2000 to 2002) come from the registerydepartment of SheXian. Based on method and request ofIACR/IARC, we gathered, packed up, checked and analysed thedata from 1974 to 2002.We caculate the standard rate ofmortality of China adopting population percentage surveyed in1982,and the standard rate of mortality of world was caculatedwith world standard populatin of 1985.The data were input intoa computer to set up database and statistical analysis wasperformed using SPSS 12.0 software, trends test of malignanttumors of each decade was chi-square test.Results:1 From 1970's to the new century, the mortality rates ofmalignant tumors has a trend of descend, the mortality rates are272.04/10,000, 260.14/10,000, 211.70/10,000 and180.11/10,000 respectively. The test of trend is 240.51(P<0.001).The mortality rate of malignant tumors of male descend from320.20/100,000 in 1970s to 236.40/100,000 in the new centurywith trend test being 87.981. The mortality rate of malignanttumors of female descend from 214.18/100,000 in 1970s to119.35/100,000 in the new century with trend test is161.03(P<0.001).2 The main malignant tumors are esophageal cancer, gastriccancer, liver cancer, lung cancer and cervix cancer. The sum oftheir percentages to all causes death are 92.13%, 91.57%,92.14% and 93.90% respectively.3 The sex ratio (male vs female) are 1.5,1.5,1.7 and 2.0respectively, with a trend of ascend.4 The mortality rate of malignant tumors increased with age.5 There are different kinds of cancers in different age group,each age group has it's main cancers, for example leukamia inchildren, liver cancer, leukemia and gastric cancer in youth, lungcancer, esophageal cancer and gastric cancer in prime of life toagedness.6 The mortality rate of esophageal cancer and cervix canceralso has a trend of descend. The mortality rate of esophagealcancer descend from 131.31/100,000 in 1970s to 65.23/100,000in the new century with arrangement from the first place in1970s, 1980s to second place in 1990s and new century. Themortality rate of cervix cancer descend from 27.77/100,000 in1970s to 6.69/100,000 in the new century with arrangementfrom the third place in 1970s to the fourth place in new century.The mortality rate of gastric cancer has not much alterationthough ascend first then descend.7 There is obvious geographic distribution, and the highmortality area of malignant tumors is the intermingle area ofQingZhang river and ZhuoZhang river in SheXian.For example,the towns of Guxin, Zhangjiatou, Huyu, Shentou, et, al. From1970s to the beginning of the new century, the mortality ratesare above 250/100,000, while the mortality rates of those townsfar away from Zhang river takes on low level, and the mortalityrates from 1970s to the beginning of the new century are below200/100,000.Conclusion:Shexian is a high incidence area of malignanttumor in China. The mortality rate of malignant tumor from1970s to the beginning of new century is 227.52/100,000(percentage to all causes of death is 31.55%, ranks the firstplace). The standard mortality rate in China is 224.51/100,000with the standard mortality rate in world 305.09/100,000, theyare all higer than the mean mortality rate of China.
