[Background] Pelvic inflammatory disease(PID) is common in the gynecologic clinic with a high rate of incidence. According to many clinical researches, enema with traditional Chinese medicine is an effective way to treat PID. The methods of evidence-based medicine(EBM) and systematic review (SR) are recommended and performed by more and more medical professionals. The aim of SR is to assess evidence of the effects of healthcare interventions, intended to help people to make informed decisions about health care, which is needed to help ensure that healthcare decisions throughout the world can be informed by high quality, timely research evidence.[Objective] to assess the efficacy and safety of enema treatment with Traditional Chinese herbs for chronic pelvic inflammatory disease.[Methods] All reports of clinical trials of enema with traditional Chinese herbs in treating pelvic inflammatory disease were collected and fixed-effect model of Meta—analysis was performed by using the statistical software of Review Manager(RevMan4.2) . Sensitivity and heterogeneity were analyzed and tested; funnel—plot analysis was used to identify the publication bias. The methodological quality of trials was assessed by the Jadad-scale plus allocation concealment.[Results] In 103 clinical reports, 15.5% adopted the randomized and controlled method; but the quality was not so good; the criteria of inclusion and exclusion was absent or not standardized in most of the reports; blinded method was adopted scarcely; drop-out and missed cases...
