Objective: Research the effect of the drug shouwuyizhiling on vascular dementia.Methods: Designing the clinical scheme to observe the prepared Ch. Medicine Shouwuyizhiling' s curative effect on the cognitive abilities, faculty of memory , activity of daily living, clinical symptom, regional cerebral blood flow(rCBF) and blood rheology of VD patients. We used animal experiment to observe the drug' s beneficial effects on VD model rats' intelligence. We studied the rats' intelligence, examined the activity of superoxide radical (SOD), and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the rats' cerebral tissue. We also used the HE dying and immunohistochemitry methods to observe the neuron appearance and the Calbindin-D positive neurons in the hippocampus of the rat' s cerebral tissue.Results: The VD patients' scores of the charts MMSE. ADL. HDS. WMS got significantly improved after taking the prepared Ch. Medicine shouwuyizhiling (P<0. 05, P<0.01).The clinical symptom , indexes of rCBF) and blood rheology also improved apparently after treatment (P<0. 05, P<0. 01). The place test and the spatial probe test results of the control group are better than the model group and the contrast group (P<0. 05, P<0. 01). The control group' s activities of SOD are much more higher, while the level of MDA is lower than the modelgroup and the contrast group (P<0. 05, P<0.01).The HE dying slices of rats' hippocampus show that the neuron appearance of the control group is better than the model group and the contrast group(P<0. 05, P<0.01).The immunohistochemistry results show that there were more Calbindin-D positive neurons in the control group than the model group and the contrast group(P<0. 01).Conclusion: The prepared Ch. Medicine Shouwuyizhiling can significantly improve the cognitive abilities, faculty of memory , activity of daily living of the VD patients and the VD model rats. It can better the VD patients' regional cerebral blood flow(rCBF), blood rheology condition and the clinical symptom , can clear the free radical, reduce the formation of the folipid hydroperoxide, resist the lipid peroxidation hurting, protect hippocampus neuron from the ischemia hurting, and improve the Calbindin-D positive neurons of the hippocampus.
