In this study, immobilization stress (IS) mouse were used as stress-induced neuroendocrine-immunity (NEI) suppressed model. The effects of Liuwei Dihuang water-extract ion (LW), a typical traditional Chinese medical prescription possessing the effect of nourishing the "Kidney Yin", were studied in the model.1. The NEI in immobilization stressed mouseThe results demonstrated that the neuroendocrine-immuny function of the IS mouse was suppressed. The splenocyte antibody production response to the challenge of sheep red blood cells (SRBC) in plaque-forming cell (PFC) assay was significantly decreased, and the splenocyteproliferation induced by Conananvalin A (Con A) was lowered too, compared with the control mouse. The weight of tes t is and ovary was toward decreased, the level of testosterone in the testis leydig cells of IS mouse was also significantly decreased compared with control group. The concentrations of DOPAC, DA in hypothalamus increased and the concentrat ions of DOPAC, DA, 5-HT in hippocampus decreased in IS mouse when compared with control group.2 Effects of L?on IS mouseThe results revealed that oral administration of LW could enhance the weight of the stress mouse. The lowered antibody production response to the challenge of SRBC and the lowered proliferation response in IS mouse were ameliorated by LW. The administration of LW (5.0 and 10. Og/kg) for two weeks significantly reversed the weight of testis and ovary, it could also ameliorated the secretionof testosterone in IS mouse when compared with IS control group. At the same time, the concentrations of DOPAC, DA in hypothalamus of IS mouse were decreased and the concentrations of DOPAC, DA, 5-HT in hippocampus were enhanced after administration of LW. The results above suggested that LW could ameliorate the NEI function.
