Objective: To present and explain a definition of a special progress stage," Critical Respiratory Failure", of sufferers with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases( COPD) due to chronic obstructive bronchitis. Method: Compare arterial blood gases( ABGs), peaceful respiratory drive, mechanics of respiratory muscles, resistance and compliance of airway and some important cytokines of these patients( till and until this special stage) with control group, and then analyze the relationships of these parameters and their power. Results: The patients in the " Critical Respiratory Failure" stage have great changes in these parameters which maybe aggravate the progress of COPD. So this definition can be scientific and can be used in clinical medication. Conclusions: We should intervene the progress when these patients in this special stage before they go into the stage of True Respiratory Failure". The intervention ought to be concentrated on the therapies of oxygenation, bronchodilators, improving in airway compliance, cytokines and anti-infection.
