The Present Situation Analysis And Development Countermeasures Of Cotton Production In Henan

Cotton is one of the most important goods and materials of the national economy and the people's livelihood, playing a vital role in our country's national economic development. But, in recent years, with the fast development of the textile industry, the cotton situation of our country has presented an in-short supply situation. The imported cotton increases sharply, reaching 2,570,000 tons in 2005, which makes up about 29% of the world cotton volume of trade and 27% of the domestic volume of cotton consumption of the same period. In a medium and long term, the textile clothing industry is the industry with stronger international competitiveness. The foreign export will continue presenting the growth situation. With the improvement of people's living standard, the per capita occupancy volume of fibre and volume of consumption in our country will enter a fast-developing period. All these will cause the fast growth of the demand of the cotton. During " eleven-five " period, the annual requirement of the cotton is expected to be up to more than 10 million tons.Henan Province is a large cotton growing province. Long-term cultivated area and gross output account for 1/6 of the whole country, respectively. For a long time, the cotton that the whole province produces is on the basis of meeting the province needs with certain amount of export to other localities every year. But in recent years, the cotton spinning industry of the whole province develops rapidly, and the cotton spinning demand has gone beyond the long-term production capacity. Henan Province has turned to be a net cotton-imported province from a net exported province. According to the development plan of textile industry of Henan Province, it is estimated that until 2010, the cotton spinning production capacity in Henan can be up to 15 million spindles (spin including the air current), about 1.68 times of those of 2005. The output of yarn will reach 2,200,000 tons. This will make the differences between cotton production and real needs bigger.Henan Province is located in Central Plains, with superior ecological conditions. Natural conditions such as light, heat, water, soil, etc. could meet the needs for cotton growth. Therefore, Henan is one of the superior cotton-growing areas. For many years, expanding cotton production has produced and given a powerful push to cotton district economy. Even in a quite long period of time from now, it will still be the important supporting point to increase peasant's income and to revitalize cotton district economy. Considering sustainable development, cotton fibre has a lot of advantages such as good hygroscopicity, good ventilatiion, cold-proof, flexibility, comfortabilty, easy to wear and dye firmly. As renewable resources , cotton fibre has a broad and splendid future.This thesis, taking domestic and international cotton production, consumption situation as the background, analyses the variation tendency of cotton production, cotton distribution, application of new variety and cotton-planting technology, and the competitive power for cotton production. Main problems existing in the cotton production at present in Henan were pointed out: First, the cotton production fluctuates greatly and gross output hesitates to press forward; Second, the quality problems of cotton are outstanding; Third, the science and technology supporting ability is relatively weak; Fourth, the investment level tends to be weakened. The reasons behind the problems have also been analysed. On the basis of all these, development Countermeasures and suggestions have been put forward: First, restore the cotton-growing area and optimize the regional overall arrangement; Second, do a good job of the key link to promote the quality of cotton; Third, make proper supporting policy, increase the input in science and technology, strengthen production stamina; Fourth, advance cotton industrialization management actively , expand business scale progressively; Fifth, do a good job of service innovation, improve systematic management ability, in order to guarantee the sustainable development of cotton production. This research puts emphasis on improving integral level and market competitive power that Henan cotton produce. In order to realize the sustainable development of cotton production, it is needed to take the systematic, comprehensive and supplementary measures on every link of cotton production, not merely in a certain respect or single measure.
