Information visualization in forest resource management is one of the important issues in forest science. The development of forest visualization technique can bring a new comprehending mode of forest.Based on the data of 18 sample plots for Mongolian scots pine plantations in Maoershan experimental forestry centre, the single tree and forest sand growth model were established using math modeling method. The geometric template of single tree 3D modeling and 3D visualization model of forest stand were then established combined with the GIS technique and 3D landform modeling technique.Illumination, material, shade, fog, texture treatment were used in forest vitual 3D scene to improve the 3D scene quality, strengthen the customer immersion sense and contrast froret virtual 3D scene with highly third dimension.Using Visual C++ and OpenGL, this paper design a virtual forest growth and management simulation system, which is a virtual forest antetype system faced forest management. It has the. functions of planar map management; vitual forest ramble, forest growth and management simulation, forest information summarizion based on the forest investigation data.The forest 3D visualization models and forest vitual management system studied in this paper can provide the feeling of the sense of vision for the customer, let the customer have the sensitive faculty understanding to the forest resources information, make the decision maker have more vivid and objective understanding of forest resource actuality and plan, enlarge the view of forest resource manager.
