The technology of virtual Teality (VR) provides a new descriptive method for mass data visualization including agriculture. "Virtual plants" arc something by computer which contains sufficient spatial information for realistic image of successive growth. It is the application of VR in agriculture. With the development of information technique, the research of virtual plant has become one of the hottest areas in computer science.-Plant models are classed visualization models and growth mechanistic models in the base of achieving-function and simulating-process .. And the growth mechanistic models include physiological-ecological models and formal-structural models. Because of different applied areas, typical formal-structural models are divided two sorts. One emphasizes particularly on computer graphics such as IFS, Ramification Matrix, Particle System, etc. This kind of model needn't complicating growth mechanism because it just concerns about visualization. So, they are mostly applied in gardens-layout and sight-design, etc. And the other model is for agriculture-forest, according to measure of mass-data in pant growth', the topological structures at each growth stage can be generated to simulate plant's growth realistically such as L-System, Automaton Model, etc.A technique Called "Growth Mechanistic Models" construction is for agriculture-forest. The technique includes modeling and integrated two .parts. Currently status is isolated description between physiological-ecological models and formal-structural models, and the integrated research which is pivot of virtual plants is absent. In growth mechanistic models, the research can not only make virtual plants achieve quickly, but also be, important to construct universal platform.The technique called "Growth Mechanistic Models" construction in this paper is aimed at exploring the integrate way of physiological-ecological models and formal-structural models. This paper gives attention to interface of physiological-ecological models and formal-structural models chiefly. At same time it gives attention to the universality of the technique based on physiological-ecological models which have been a'lready. The results of the study as follows:1. Construction of formal-structural modelsAfter expounding and analyzing the .ideas of Dual-Scale Automaton Model in formal-structural models, the study pointing out Dual-Scale Automaton Model is beneficial to "Growth Mechanistic Models" construction. The Parameters of this model have explicitly Physical meaning for relating to the topological structures, it is easy for users to understand and implement in applications.The characteristics in growing period of maize ;are analyzed. The maize formal-structural model is designed on Dual-Scale Automaton. To simulate the effect of environmental factors, wecan firstly introduce environmental factors according to physiological-ecological models and then combine the parameter table of Dual-Scale Automaton model.2. Study of physiological-ecological modelsTemperature and sunlight are primacy factors" in plants'growth. Two environmental factors arc introduced. For speed of growth course, the simulated method is prevalently growth velocity. It focuses on the quantitative relation, ignores the exterior characteristics such as organ growth status, shape, and so on. " .Dual-Scale Automaton Model compartmentalizes plant growth period to make certain the state-scale based on the exterior characteristics. To combine the physiological-ecological models with Dual-Scale Automaton Model, growth model must be fit. In the study, growth index is beneficial to Dual-Scale Automaton.Growth index is the quantitative method of growth period. It describes the organ growth status and corresponds to the growth speed. The growth days arc different of every growth period, the index increases entirely after every period finished. So, growth index not only shows the course of plant accurately but also describes the exterior characteristics, It benefits each status and circle time of Dual-Scale Automaton model. - -3. Study of Growth Mechanistic Models constructionPhysiological-ecological models and Dual-Scale Automaton models are diffident in Growth Mechanistic Models because of various plants' types. The mode of modularization is introduced to solve the problem about a mass of code modification which is brought by models change. Growth mechanistic models system of maize is partitioned several modules. Each has its own independent function. Database is introduced and interface is designed. The conveniences are improved by modularity and the system easy to expand. .*4. Interface study of physiological-ecological models and Dual-Scale Automaton modelsTo describe height of plant, numbers of leaves and the changes of leaves' area, the interface which are difficulty and keystone are necessary.In the study, the growth states are described which include growth speed, growth position of leaves and the numbers of leaves, changes. According to the description, a method which is combined the physiological-ecological models with formal-structural models is given by controlled cycle times in Dual-Scale Automaton Model. Two arithmetic that are cycle times and leaves' changes are designed. The arithmetic can make the creating of maize structure have interaction and action in environments.There are simple studies in other parts such as the connection, transfer of database, leaves visualization and so on.
