Epidemiological Survey And Control Results Anlysis Of Cattle And Sheep Brucellosis In Haidong District Of Qinghai Province

Objective: Epidemiological survey were carried out on cattle and sheep brucellosis in Haidong district and the prevention system and control results were analysed. The aim is to find problems and to propose suitable preventive measures, so as to consolidate the achievements of brucellosis control.Method: The original data from 1981 to 2004 of cattle and sheep brucellosis in Haidong district were collected, and the results were studied by biometrics. Suggestions for improve the controlling of this disease were put forward basing on the analysis and evaluation of previous control measures and results. Meanwhile, the domestic and international epidemic situation, development tendency and research progress of this infectious disease were reviewed.Results: The results showed that by applying integrated controlling measures, the infection rate of cattle and sheep brucellosis decreased from 5.45% and 5.15% at the beginning of the 1980s to 0.19% and 0.09% in 2004, dropping by 5.26% and 5.06%, respectively. Yielded strikingly outcome (P<0.01) , and achieved prominent economic, social and ecological benefits, furthermore, it accumulated valuable experience for controlling some other animal-borne infectious disease.Though the prevention of brucellosis in Haidong district has achieved notable results, the control of this disease needs much endeavor and long period because of the latent risk factors. So, the integrated controlling measures "vaccination, quarantine, surveillance and stamp out" should be implemented in future to consolidate the achievements of brucellosis control, and to make contribution to the development of local animal husbandry, the health of people and the income increase of farmers.
