In order to set up a cultivar-classification system that could be more practical, we studied on Numerical Taxonomy for some Chinese cultivars of Paeonia. latctiflora after resource exploration. With analyse for 33 characters of 54 cultivars, we set up the cultivar classification system. In this system, 'flower color' is used as the first classification criterion, 'flower type' as the second classification criterion. All the cultivar groups are classified as 6 series including 18 sorts. In Heze, Gansu and Beijing, we investigated the cultivars of P. lactiflora which displayed the general situation of these cultivars in China. With reference to the cultivar classification system, the general situation mainly includes the abundant variety of color and flower type for Chinese cultivars of P.lactiflor a. However, some cultivars are extremely lacking, such as yellow-flower cultivars, single-type cultivars and multiple-color cultivars(red outer petal and yellow inner petal; The number of 'normal flowering time cultivars' and 'late flowering cultivars' is large, but the quantity of 'early flowering cultivars' is small; The number of 'Up-flowering cultivars' is large, but the quantity of 'high production cultivars' is small; There are some multiple-flower type cultivars, of which the 'Jinhuan' type is an interim flower type; Gansu cultivars have not been officially named yet. But they have got some specificity, for example, all of the Gansu cultivars are of double-flower type; all of the Gansu cultivars have multiple-color petals, and they got the variegations located on the brim of petals; No Gansu cultivars have white chapiters. We built the appraisable application system for the forcing culture. Accordingly the Chinese cultivars of P.lactiflor a were classified as four grades, among which we found the best seven cultivars,...
