The Seeds dormancy mechanism and the methods of overcoming dormancy of Acer buergerianum Miq. seeds were studied .The results showed as follows:1.The dormancy of Acer buergerianum Miq. seeds were belong to internal dormancy. The seeds would germinate after six weeks by the cold stratification.2.The substance which induces seeds dormancy existed inside the seed. By the water absorption experiments of seed coat, it was indicated that the embryos of untreated seeds also absorbed much water in the water absorption experiment. Physical characteristics of seeds' coat was not the reason which caused the seeds dormancy. The biotic measurement results of the extracts of Acer buergerianum Miq. seeds showed that extracts contains some germination-restraining substance which could reduce cabbage seeds germination. The seeds would not germinate directly under the normal temperature .Soaked in the gibberelic acid and then having a germination test under the normal temperature, the seeds were not able to germinate.Only those seeds appeared the high germination percentage by the cold stratification.3. The relative conductivity had a high state during the dormancy of seeds, but during the time of overcoming dormancy, the relative conductivity had a drop tendency. With the increasing of cold stratification time, the dormancy breaked gradually. The content of soluble sugar and the starch and the soluble protein had a drop tendency.4. With the increasing of cold stratification time, the activity of peroxidase (POD) was at the steady state . After the 6th week of cold stratification, the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) content had a drop tendency, but malondialdehyde(MDA) just was opposite.5. With the increasing of cold stratification time, the content of abscisic acid(ABA) in the Acer buergerianum Miq. seeds reduced gradually, and after the 7th week the content of ABA reached a steady state. The content of gibberelic acid(GA) was low before overcoming dormancy, but increased after overcoming dormancy. The ratio of gibberelin to abscisic acid (GA/ABA) arose from the 6th week. But the function that the gibberelin broke dormancy was limited. The content of indole-3-acetic acid(IAA) increased in the 6th and the 7th week, and all maintained the stable level except the 6th and the 7th week. The ratio of indole-3-acetic acid to...
