As living standards improved and people's demand for flowers increased, studies on characteristics of flower seeds dormancy and improving the germination rate of flower seeds would make progress in the flower development in our country. Taking Iris lacteal,Lavandula angustifolia,Cobariocalyx matorius and Lupinus polyphyllus as material, we studied the reason of dormancy and took measures to accelerate the germination of seeds and investigated the physiological and biochemical changes during the course of germination after different treatments. The main results were as follow:1. The results of water absorption of seeds coat and the biotic measurement results of the extract solution of seeds coat and albumen showed that Iris lactea and Lavandula angustifolia seeds belonged to a type of comprehensive deep dormancy ,and seed dormancy of Cobariocalyx matorius and Lupinus polyphyllus was due to the barrier of seed coat.2. With suitable treated temperature and treated time, concentrated sulphuric acid had better effect on the breaking of coat obstacle than Sodium Hydroxide.3. During the course of seed germination, MDA content reduced, three protection enzymes(SOD, POD, CAT) activity enhanced, seed storage material degraded, and the degradation provided quantitative materials and energy for the germ growth. With the treatment of either GA3 or PEG would accelerate the physiological and biochemical process of seed germination and increase the seed vigor.4. Terminal germination percentages of Iris lactea, Lavandula angustifolia , Cobariocalyx matorius and Lupinus polyphyllus were 90.3%,99%,98%,92.3% with different methods respectively, which closed to or reached viability of the seeds. The problems to break the dormancy of seeds and to improve germination percentage were solved.
