Preliminary Studies On Photosynthesis Characteristic About Different Varieties Of Oil Palm

The oil palm(Elaeis quineensis) is the crop which has the highest production of oil in an unit area in the world. Presently, the production of the oil palm developed a lot at breeding and agronomy. It promotes the oil palm production to increase by a wide margin. The photosynthesis of plant is the decisive factor of yield and quality. In this experiment, the characteristics of photosynthesis of 12 oil palm varieties which were 36 months old planted in 8×9m, were determined by LI-6400 portable photosynthesis system. And the data were analyzed by SAS and DPS system. The characteristics of photosynthesis of 12 oil palm varieties in the tropical marginal area were concluded as follows.1. Oil palm's Pn daily variation is a classic double high value curve which is lower at noon. The highest value is around 10 o'clock, the second is around 14 o'clock, and the lowest is around 12 o'clock. It expresses the obviously lunch break phenomenon. In total, Varieties 2, 5 and 9 have better performance than others in the morning and Varieties 5, 10 and 13 have better performance in the afternoon.2. Oil palm's Pn season variation is double high value curve. The first high value is in June, and the second is in September. From June to October is oil palm's photosynthesis production prosperous period. The change of season environment term has effective in the Pn season variation. In different varieties, Varieties 5 and 9 have better photosynthesis performance.3. Oil palm's LCP is between 50-90μmol·m^-2·s^-1, LSP is between 1000-1600μmol·m^-2·s^-1, CCP is between 23-82μmolCO₂·mol^-1, and CSP is between 1100-1850μmolCO₂·mol^-1.4. The variation of the SPAD of 12 varieties is consistence. Increased from March to July, and the increacing is stability. From August, the increacing is slow, and almost keep constantly.
