Purpose:By observing the effect of abdominal acupuncture therapy on post-stroke insomnia, to explore the curative effect and advantages of abdominal acupuncture therapy and to contribute new therapeutic method to the treatment of post-stroke insomnia.Material and method: 60 post-stroke insomnia patients who visited the Rehabilitation Center of the Affiliated Hospital of LUTCM were selected based on standard of admission. These patients were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, with 30 patients in either group. Patients in treatment group were treated by abdominal acupuncture and patients in control group received common acupuncture treatment. All patients received their treatment from Monday to Friday with one treatment for each day and 30 minutes for each treatment. The course of treatment is 2 weeks. Sleep quality for each patient was measured for Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index before and after the course of treatment. Additionally, sleep quality, sleep duration, sleep wake-up level and mental status after sleeping were asked and recorded before and after the course of treatment. All negative incidences that happened during the course of treatment were recorded. All recorded data were assessed by SPSS 19.0 software package. Measurement data were displayed in the form of Mean±Variance and were tested with t-test. Enumeration data were tested with chi-square test. P<0.05 indicates statistical significance. Results: 1.The total effective rate of treatment group is 90.0%: 12 cases were cured, 9 cases showed significant effect,6 cases showed moderate effect and 3 cases showed no positive effect. The total effective rate of control group is 73.3%: 5 cases were cured, 9 cases showed significant effect, 8 cases showed moderate effect and 8 cases showed no positive effect. The total effect rate of treatment group is higher than that of the control group with statistical significance(P<0.05)。 2.The post-treatment PSQI scores of treatment group and control group are higher than those of the pre-PSQI scores of treatment group and control group respectively with statistical significance(P<0.05)。 3. The post-treatment PSQI scores of treatment group are higher than those of control group with statistical significance(P<0.05)。 Conclusion:1.Abdominal acupuncture therapy shows great curative effect on post-stroke insomnia and its total effect is better than that of common acupuncture therapy. 2.Abdominal acupuncture therapy is effective on post-stroke insomnia in aspects of sleep quality, duration of sleep, sleep efficiency, sleep disorders and day-time dysfunction; it is also better than common acupuncture therapy in each aspect of the six stated above. 3.The therapeutic effect of abdominal acupuncture therapy is satisfying. It is easy and safe to operate. Most patients can accept this therapy. Thus, abdominal acupuncture therapy on post-stroke insomnia is worth further research.
