These contributions are rooted in clinical practice and offer a set of extraordinary points that have endured the test of time to achieve acceptance. In the context of TCM, the Chinese character for "extraordinary" encompasses a concept of unique treatment points used in specific applications for significant, lasting therapeutic effect. The advantages of using extraordinary points in ophthalmology are worthy of broader attention:simplicity, convenience, effectiveness and cost savings. Still, only a limited number of articles have been published on the subject, especially in the field of ophthalmology.Part one introduces the historical origins of extraordinary points and their characteristics in terms of the location distribution and archives from treating ophthalmological conditions. Part two researches the clinical application of frequently-used extraordinary points in treating a wide range of ophthalmological conditions.
