Corn is secondary grain only to rice. Because animal husbandry and corn meatpacking industry are developing, quantity of corn is constant increasing. Inadequacy of agriculture extend system and the long-term, heavy reliance on chemical control, problems of pesticide resistance by pest and pesticide residue on agricultural products are severe. It threats to the healthy, sustaining development of the corn industry and animal husbandry.With the popularization of computers and development of information technology, it is now possible to use modern information technology to retrieve and disseminate information to help solve practical problems integrated crop management. With the collaboration and support of National 863 Project, we have developed expert system for diagnosing and integrated controlling of disease, pest, weed for maize.Our effort was made to develope the expert system eating for the end-users, which include grass-root leaders, agricultural extension officer, farmers. The knowledge used to develop the expert system was retrieved from literature, experience of experts, scientific payoffs of project, etc. Meanwhile, some studies were carried out intentionally to renew the knowledge of the system. Software used for developing the expert system included Delphi 7.0, SQL, Microsoft Access 2000, etc.Diagnosis database was constructed by Dichotomous keys, forecast database to be constructed based on forecast module. Pesticide introduction database was based on different insecticides, germicide, and herbicide. Glossary database was based on technical terms of disease, pest, weed. Knowledge-training database was based on knowledge of pest, disease, weed.The expert system consist of 5 subsystems: diagnosis and control, forecast, introduction of pesticide, glossary, knowledge-training.
